How to read the EZ grader chart
Each row is one possible result. # Wrong is how many questions (or points) a student missed, # Right is what they earned, and Grade is the percentage. The letter column uses the cutoffs you set on the left, so it matches your school's policy rather than a generic scale.
Worked example
Grading a 20-question vocabulary quiz
A student misses 3: find 3 in the # Wrong column and read across to 85%, a B on a 90/80/70/60 scale. (20 − 3) ÷ 20 × 100 = 85.
Why teachers use an easy grader
- Speed: grading 30 papers means 30 divisions. With the chart it's a glance per paper.
- Consistency: everyone gets the same rounding and the same cutoffs.
- Transparency: students can see exactly how many points separate them from the next letter.
Tests where questions carry different values work too: enter the total points and treat # Wrong as points lost.
A free online grader for any test
Some teachers call it an ezgrader or an easy grade calculator. Whatever the name, it's a test grader that turns a number wrong into a percentage and letter. This EZ grader online works on a phone, tablet or laptop, and printing the chart gives you a paper grader for your desk, just like the classic cardboard slide chart.
It isn't a full online gradebook calculator. To combine a whole marking period of scores, paste them into the average grade calculator, or use the weighted grade calculator if your categories have weights.
Common grading scales in U.S. schools
The 10-point scale (A 90, B 80, C 70, D 60) is the most common, and it's the default here. Some districts use a 7-point scale (A 93, B 85, C 77, D 70), and some states set a statewide scale. Florida, for example, uses A 90, B 80, C 70, D 60 by law. Check your district's policy and enter it once; it's saved for next time. For plus/minus letters, see the full grading scale.
